Application of thermal insulation of equipment, above ground piping and tanks, design requirements and execution of an insulation system should be such that, corrosion under insulation due to ingress of rainwater or condensation of water vapors prevented. Heat loss of equipment and piping is minimized, if economically justified. Personnel protection is provided viz. surfaces with a temperature of 70 degree Celsius or higher, if these present a danger. Damage to equipment and piping from exposure to freezing conditions is prevented.
